His work, in which aluminum strands are twisted like a skein. A sculpture with large apples piled high. All are works of drawing-sculptor JEON YONG HWAN.

▲ Transforming Cycles 130x110x27cm Aluminum/Urethane Paint 2003

JEON YONG HWAN's unforgettable works can often be seen on the streets of Korea. He is already a celebrity in the public art world. Even if people don't know his name, there are few people who don't know his work “Apple Sculpture”.

▲ Space-from the one 30x35x93cm Aluminum Urethane Paint 2017

The theme of his series “Transforming Cycles,” which embodies the protein structure, is “circulation.” Through his work, he defines “circulation” as “continuously repeating a certain flow of change within a single loop”. In other words, the “circulation” he refers to means that tangled loops come together again.

The light and flexible aluminum strands, which look like threads untangled from a skein, and the arrows pointing in different directions are connected to one big flow.

The large red and blue apple sculpture is another of his series, “Space-From the one”. This work is on the extension of “Transforming Cycles”.

▲ The work manifests its form with the whole yin and yang that mutually complement two opposite natures upon

  interactive elements

The net wrapped around the appetizing apple placed on the lawn of the park takes on the shape of another apple. The theme of this work is also “circulation”.

Two layers of apples created from one aluminum plate. His works contain human life like a Möbius strip that repeats without beginning and end.

He says he works like he does architecture. He cuts and welds aluminum pieces one by one to create space by turning flat pieces into three dimensions.

His work method also resembles a “circulation” that begins on a single plane and has no front and back, no beginning and no end.

▲ Transforming Cycles 122x126x40cm Aluminum/Urethane Paint 2017

His works contain the mathematical delicacy and craftsmanship of an architect. In his arduous and repetitive work process, his philosophy circulates the audience to the work.
