J-Hope, a member of BTS, has released his solo album ‘Jack In The Box’ on July 15. He’s the first BTS member to get official solo debut. This album has been the first official solo album since he released his mixtape ‘Hope World(2018)’ and ‘Chicken Noodle Soup(feat. Bdcky G)(2019).
Title of album, ‘Jack In The Box’ means a chlid’s toy box with a doll inside it that jumps out when the lid is opened. This album has J-Hope’s aspirations to break the mold and grow further.
In particular, the album cover art of ‘Jack In The Box’ stands out. The album cover art was designed by KAWS who is a global pop art designer and artist.
KAWS is a leader in American pop art. He is famous for his art toy ‘Companion’ that he made in 1999. His sculpture made of various materials and size has been exhibited in many countries including Switzerland, Hong Kong, Taiwan, UK, Japan, South Korea, and ect. KAWA collaborated with famous brands such as Supreme, Dior, Nike and Comme de Garsons as well.

This collaboration was accomplished by J-Hope’s suggestion. He is an artist who values the visual experience of music. Through this collaboration with KAWS, he embodied visual and auditory experiences in this album cover. KAWS designed the cover of ‘Jack In The Box’ based on his art series ‘URGE’ that deal with uncertainty of life in this generation. KAWS visualized J-Hope who is standing at the crossroads of choice as a his unique style like clear lines and vivid colors.
KAWS said, "Thank you for the invitation to collaborate on your first solo album. I’m looking forward to the full album and full artwork. I appreciated all the support over the last few years” on his Instagram.
There are 10 tracks on ‘Jack In The Box’ including ‘MORE’, ‘Pandora’s Box’, ‘STOP’, ‘Equal Sign’, ‘Music Box: Reflection’, ‘What if’, ‘Safety Zone’, and ‘Future’, ‘Arson’.
J-Hope is going to be headlining Lollapalooza which is the famous annual music festival in Chicago on July 31. He will become the first Korean artist to be the main act of the festival.
