NMIXX’s new single “Birthday Wish” has reached No. 5 on Melon’s Top 100 following the release of the group’s sixth EP, “Strange Muse.”
The song was released on Oct. 19 and entered the chart at No. 34 before rising into the top five. The album also topped iTunes album charts in several countries and regions, including Singapore and Hong Kong, according to JYP Entertainment.
“Birthday Wish” combines elements of moombahton, Afro and future house. Its arrangement moves between expansive instrumental passages, quieter breaks, spoken narration and a bridge that builds towards the latter part of the song.
The music video follows Lily, Haewon, Sullyoon, Bae, Jiwoo and Kyujin as they become one another’s muses and turn their shared time into a celebration. JYP Entertainment released behind-the-scenes photographs from the production on Oct. 21, showing the members filming group choreography and interacting on set.
“Strange Muse” contains six tracks. Alongside the title track are the full-group songs “Kerosene” and “RudE TaLK,” as well as three unit recordings.
Lily and Haewon perform the piano-led pop ballad “Sing to the Moon,” while Sullyoon and Bae appear on the dembow-based “Hot ’n Unbothered.” Jiwoo and Kyujin form the final unit for “WHIP.” The three songs are NMIXX’s first officially released unit tracks.
NMIXX will conclude their first world tour, “EPISODE 1: ZERO FRONTIER,” with three concerts at Inspire Arena in Incheon from Nov. 27–29.
