Artist Yoon Seo-hee’s solo exhibition DDAM: Sweat, Labor, Stitch is running at M.Collect.19 Gallery in Seoul’s Yeonhui-dong district through Oct. 31.
Presented as the gallery’s October exhibition, the show traces Yoon’s artistic practice through paintings combined with hand embroidery.
The Korean word ddam can refer both to perspiration and to an individual stitch. The exhibition title uses this dual meaning to connect physical labour with the repeated movement of sewing.
Yoon begins with painted images and adds thread directly to their surfaces. Each stitch introduces a tactile layer that differs from the painted marks beneath it, allowing the works to move between painting, embroidery and mixed media.

The process requires the artist to return repeatedly to an existing image. Rather than functioning as decoration, the stitching records the time and manual effort involved in completing each work.
By bringing painted surfaces and sewn lines together, Yoon examines how an image changes through accumulation. Variations in thread, texture and density make the production process visible while giving physical form to the labour embedded in the work.
The exhibition also presents an overview of Yoon’s development as an artist, focusing on the relationship between her visual ideas and the handmade qualities of her practice.
DDAM: Sweat, Labor, Stitch runs through Oct. 31 at M.Collect.19 Gallery, located on the second floor of 23 Yeonhui-ro 11ga-gil in Seodaemun District, Seoul.
The gallery is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and closed on Sundays and Mondays.
