K-pop girl group ILLIT will return with its fifth EP “Break Even” on Oct. 26.
The group revealed the album’s track list through its official social media accounts on Sept. 28. The release contains four songs: “Super in Love,” “More,” the title track “Chepohagesseo” and “Pop.”
“Chepohagesseo,” which roughly translates as “I’ll Arrest You,” addresses someone whose habitual kindness has led the narrator to mistake friendliness for romantic interest.
The song continues the relationship narrative established in ILLIT’s previous title track “It’s Me.” While the earlier release portrayed the group approaching a romantic interest directly, the new title track shifts towards ending an unbalanced relationship.
The four songs are arranged as a sequential story. “Super in Love” begins with the realisation that the feelings are unrequited, while “More” examines emotions created by a misunderstanding. “Chepohagesseo” brings the relationship to an end, and “Pop” introduces a new romantic interest.
The album title borrows the financial term “break-even point,” where profit and loss are equal, and applies it to a relationship in which the emotional return no longer matches the effort invested.
