The highly anticipated annual world championship of the immensely popular computer game "League of Legends" (LoL), a pinnacle event in the global esports arena, is set to commence in Seoul. Organized by Riot Games Inc., the 2023 competition is poised to begin with a thrilling opening game between PSG.Talon and Movistar R7 at the renowned LoL Park located in central Seoul.

In this 13th edition of Worlds, 22 teams representing nine regional leagues will fiercely compete for the championship. Notable entrants include four teams from the Korean league (LCK): Gen.G, T1, KT Rolster, and Dplus KIA. The competition further features teams from the Chinese league (LPL), the North American league (LCS), the league encompassing Europe, Middle East, and Africa (LEC), the Asia-Pacific league (PCS), the Vietnamese league (VCS), as well as leagues from Brazil (CBLOL), Japan (LJL), and Latin America (LLA).

Quarterfinals and semifinals are scheduled to take place at the Sajik Indoor Gymnasium in the southeastern port city of Busan, promising intense battles from November 2-5 and November 11-12, respectively. The grand finale will unfold at the Gocheok Sky Dome, Korea's largest indoor performance venue, boasting a spectator capacity of 20,000, on November 19.

Highlighting the burgeoning significance of esports, Korea recently secured victory in the inaugural title of the LoL competition at the 19th Asian Games held in China. "League of Legends" is a wildly popular multiplayer online battle arena video game developed by American video game developer Riot Games in 2009, captivating millions of fans as two teams of five players engage in head-to-head combat with the objective of destroying the opponent's "nexus," a crucial structure deeply embedded inside the enemy base.
