Hui, a member of the K-pop boy band Pentagon, has officially entered the realm of solo artists with the release of his inaugural solo album, "Whu Is Me: Complex," on Tuesday.
During a press conference in Seoul, Hui explained that the album's self-explanatory title reflects his introspective journey while working on the project. He stated, "I asked myself 'Who am I?' while working on this album. I concluded that Hui is just who I am, me. I added the word 'complex' because it was my complex that led me to work hard on overcoming the things that I do not like about myself."

The EP, featuring four singles, is spearheaded by the track "Hmm Bop," a lively and sophisticated dance song that revolves around the theme of self-love. Hui expressed that the lead track is a personal reflection on his own journey, showcasing both his vocal and performing talents. He revealed that his complex, particularly related to his body, motivated him to overcome personal challenges, which is evident in the song's music video and choreography.
Despite facing a sore throat on the day of the press conference, Hui delivered a seamless and melodious performance of "Hmm Bop" on stage.
Hui, recognized for his skills as a music producer, shared that it took six years to release his solo album as he was primarily focused on group projects as the leader of Pentagon. Now venturing into a solo career, he aims to showcase diverse facets of his artistry through songs of various genres that he personally creates.
Expressing affection for his bandmates, who are now with different agencies post the expiration of their exclusive group contract with Cube Entertainment in October, Hui mentioned their support during the creation of the album. He highlighted the close communication he maintains with the Pentagon members, emphasizing their ongoing connection despite pursuing individual paths.
Hui expressed hope that the public will embrace his solo album, providing him with an opportunity to share more of his musical creations. He stated, "I love it when people say 'This is so like Hui' after listening to my song. I hope my fans recognize that this album represents the artist Hui."
