Netflix revealed that the film "My Name is Loh Kiwan," featuring Song Joong-ki in the lead role, is scheduled for release on March 1. Adapted from Cho Hae-jin's novel "I Met Loh Kiwan," the storyline revolves around a North Korean defector, Loh Kiwan (played by Song Joong-ki), embarking on a solitary journey to seek refuge in Belgium.

As Kiwan faces challenges and hardships to secure refugee status, he encounters Mari, portrayed by actor Choi Sung-eun, a woman grappling with despair. The film delves into the connection between the two characters and raises questions about Kiwan's ability to substantiate his North Korean origins to attain refugee status.

Director Kim Hee-jin, known for independent films such as "Neighbors" (2014), "MJ" (2012), and "A Brand New Journey" (2010), helmed the project.

Song Joong-ki gained attention for his role in the Cannes-invited film "Hopeless" last year, where he appeared without compensation. Notably, the actor received a nomination for Best Supporting Actor at the Blue Dragon Film Awards, a prestigious recognition in the Korean film industry.

Married to British actor Katy Louise Saunders since January last year, Song Joong-ki has been featured in notable works such as "Descendants of the Sun" (2016), "Arthdal Chronicles" (2019-2023), and "Reborn Rich" (2022), the latter achieving a 26.9 percent viewership rating nationwide during its broadcast.
