The Korean national women's football team secured a 3-0 victory against the Philippines in their first friendly match on Friday, with the decisive win coming from late-game breakthroughs.

Managed by Colin Bell, the Korean team will face the Philippines again in a second friendly on Monday at Icheon City Stadium, marking the final stop on their schedule until the next FIFA international break in June.

During Friday's match, despite initial resistance from the Philippines, Korea dominated possession, eventually overpowering their opponents in the final 20 minutes to secure victory.

Choe Yu-ri of Birmingham City scored the opening goal, followed by Ji So-yun of Seattle Reign netting the second. Moon Mi-ra of Suwon FC sealed the win with a third goal in the 88th minute.

The match also saw a retirement ceremony for veteran player Jeon Ga-eul, the second all-time top scorer for the Korean women's national team.

Korea aims to continue their winning streak against the Philippines, having previously won all five of their head-to-head clashes since 2008.

The Philippines, led by manager Mark Torcaso, have yet to secure a win in 2024, suffering defeats in previous friendly matches against Finland, Scotland, and Slovenia.

Both Korea and the Philippines have had mixed results this year, with Korea securing victories against the Czech Republic but suffering a loss to Portugal in friendlies in Europe.

Monday's match between Korea and the Philippines kicks off at 7 p.m. at Icheon Stadium.
