Korean Popera Tenor Lim Hyung-joo Elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts

Lim Hyung-joo, the Korean popera tenor, has been elected as a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (RSA) in Britain, as announced by his agency, DGNcom, on Tuesday.

The RSA, a distinguished arts academy established in 1754, is set to celebrate its 270th anniversary next year. Members, including historical figures like Adam Smith, Charles Dickens, Benjamin Franklin, Stephen Hawking, Marie Curie, and Karl Marx, are chosen through a rigorous selection process based on outstanding contributions to manufacturing, commerce, and the humanities.

Lim expressed the significance of his membership in the RSA, particularly in the context of the 140th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Korea and Britain. Notably, he mentioned the honor of receiving the title from the royal family. The tenor affirmed his commitment to serving as a cultural and artistic bridge between Korea and Britain.

At 37 years old, Lim Hyung-joo is a prominent figure in the Korean operatic pop and crossover music scene. His versatile career spans various genres, including classical, pop, jazz, and traditional Korean songs. Making his debut at the age of 12 with "Whispers of Hope" (1998), Lim gained international recognition with the global release of "Salley Garden" in 2003.

Currently serving as a voting member of the Grammy Awards, Lim also holds the position of an endowed chair professor at the Civil School of Arts in Rome.
