SM Entertainment issued an apology on Friday on behalf of NCT member Renjun following an incident where the artist mistakenly made a private phone number public, believing it belonged to a "sasaeng," a term used for extremely obsessive fans.

On Thursday, Renjun shared the phone number via a communication platform intended for fans, assuming it was from a sasaeng fan. However, the number actually belonged to an unrelated individual who subsequently reported the incident to local police. The company stated that they had removed the number and extended apologies to the affected person for the distress caused.

In their statement, SM Entertainment expressed regret over Renjun's hasty action and acknowledged shortcomings in their management of the situation. They emphasized that Renjun is currently seeking treatment for an anxiety disorder, a condition that has led to his temporary withdrawal from public activities since April to focus on recovery. Despite being out of the public eye, Renjun has continued to experience harassment from sasaeng fans, including an incident where one such fan sat next to him on a flight, which he disclosed to his followers earlier this month.
