(G)I-DLE, the dynamic girl group taking the K-pop world by storm, returns with their highly anticipated EP "I feel." Led by their talented leader and executive producer Soyeon, the members of (G)I-DLE radiate confidence and self-assurance as they unleash their latest musical offering. The EP's lead track, "Queencard," produced by Soyeon herself, serves as a powerful anthem inspired by the group's journey towards self-love and self-respect.
During a press showcase held on Monday at the prestigious Josun Palace in Seoul's Gangnam District, Soyeon expressed her motivation behind "Queencard," stating that it initially started as a love song. However, as she delved deeper into crafting the lyrics, she found herself wanting to address the importance of self-esteem and self-love. The track serves as a celebration of embracing one's true worth and challenging societal norms that prioritize external appearances.
Soyeon's role as both the leader and main rapper of (G)I-DLE is complemented by her position as the group's executive producer, responsible for shaping the overall direction and producing numerous hit tracks throughout their career. From their debut song "Latata" (2018) to "Tomboy" (2022) and now "Queencard," Soyeon's musical prowess has been a driving force behind (G)I-DLE's success.
Another standout track on the EP is "Allergy," a relatable song that resonates with individuals navigating the complexities of today's world. (G)I-DLE fearlessly tackles the impact of social media, shedding light on the detrimental effects of comparing oneself to others and the subsequent erosion of self-respect. The music video for "Allergy" was released last Wednesday, amassing an impressive 19 million views in less than a week. Fans praised the song's introspective lyrics and applauded the concept's execution in the visually captivating music video.
The theme of self-love and self-respect has been an ongoing motif for (G)I-DLE, as demonstrated in previous releases such as "Tomboy," where the group proudly proclaimed, "No matter if you like it or not, this is me." In their 2022 release, "Nxde," they continued to embrace authenticity by discarding unnecessary cosmetic standards and embracing their true selves.
Soyeon further explained her motivation behind addressing societal beauty standards, stating, "I observed that people nowadays are overly concerned about their appearances, not just their physical attributes, but also their personal charm and outward presentation." Through "I feel," she aims to convey the message that true beauty stems from self-love and acceptance, urging listeners to embrace their own unique qualities.
The members of (G)I-DLE exude self-confidence and empowerment, emphasizing the importance of accepting one's imperfections. Minnie, with a lighthearted laugh, expressed, "Honestly, I can't think of any complexes." She believes that loving oneself, flaws and all, is essential, and working on "Queencard" has further boosted her self-respect.
Miyeon reflected on the growth she has experienced through songs like "Tomboy," "Nxde," and now "Queencard," sharing that she has learned to love herself and embrace her individuality.
