Seoul police have officially cleared singer-rapper Jessi of charges related to an altercation involving an assault on a fan, which took place in the Gangnam area in late September. The Gangnam Police Station announced Thursday that they decided not to forward Jessi’s case to the prosecution, finding insufficient evidence to support charges of concealment or aiding a criminal’s escape.

The incident occurred on the evening of September 29, when an 18-year-old fan approached Jessi and requested a photo. The situation escalated when rapper-producer Koala and other individuals accompanying Jessi became involved, ultimately leading to an altercation. According to the fan, after his request was denied, he apologized and attempted to leave, at which point another man in the group unexpectedly struck him.

Reports indicate that Jessi intervened in an attempt to prevent further violence but promptly left the scene. Jessi maintains that she had only met the alleged assailant, reported to be a Taiwanese American, for the first time that day. However, speculation regarding a potential prior connection between Jessi and the assailant has surfaced.

Koala, identified as one of the key figures involved, is now facing charges for allegedly threatening and physically assaulting the fan. His case has been transferred to the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office. Meanwhile, the other suspect, a foreign national who fled the country shortly after the incident, has been placed on a wanted list, with South Korean authorities requesting Interpol’s assistance through a Red Notice.

The police investigation found no basis for pressing charges against Jessi, as her involvement was limited and her attempts to de-escalate the situation were noted. This recent development clears her name from the controversy that has followed the incident.

As this complex case continues, South Korean authorities remain committed to tracking down all parties involved and pursuing appropriate legal measures. The incident has sparked discussions on the responsibilities of public figures in controlling their entourages and the challenges faced in high-profile cases involving multiple jurisdictions.
