Celebrating her 19th debut anniversary, Jessie took to social media to share a heartfelt message with her fans. The statement comes roughly a month after she faced public backlash for her alleged inaction during a fan assault incident involving her entourage.
In her post, Jessie expressed gratitude for her fans, saying, “I can’t believe it’s been 19 years. I’m incredibly thankful to those who have been part of this journey with me. Your unwavering support and faith in my career mean everything to me. Without you, I truly wouldn’t be here.”
Reflecting on her career, she described her life as an unpredictable journey filled with highs and lows. “We’ve been on a rollercoaster ride together, and I’m so grateful you’ve stood by my side. Moving to Korea as a young girl and navigating this industry has shaped me into the woman I am today,” she added.
Jessie acknowledged the challenges she has faced, stating, “No one knows my struggles better than I do. But your belief in me has been my greatest strength. I hope I can inspire you not to fear chasing your dreams and never to give up on your goals.”
The heartfelt message comes in the wake of controversy surrounding an incident in which a minor fan was reportedly assaulted by a man accompanying Jessie during an encounter in Apgujeong, Seoul, on October 29. According to police reports, the fan had approached Jessie for a photo but was assaulted by one of her entourage members. Jessie, who was seen gesturing as if to intervene, reportedly left the scene shortly after.
Police were later called by the victim, and when officers located Jessie and her group nearby, she allegedly claimed to not know the assailant’s identity. Jessie’s agency later stated that the assailant was "a Chinese national and not directly associated with Jessie," describing him as a friend of a producer Jessie knows.
During a subsequent police investigation, Jessie expressed her desire for the perpetrator to be apprehended and held accountable, but she maintained that she had met the assailant for the first time that evening. This response, along with her perceived lack of proactive intervention during the incident, drew criticism from fans and the public alike.
Further scrutiny arose when it was revealed that one of Jessie’s entourage members, identified as a rapper-producer known as Koala, bore tattoos associated with a Korean gang. Allegations also surfaced that Jessie had access to the assailant’s contact information but failed to assist authorities in identifying him promptly.
Despite the criticism, the Gangnam Police Department concluded that there was insufficient evidence to charge Jessie with aiding or abetting the suspect, issuing a non-indictment decision.
Jessie’s anniversary post, while deeply personal, arrives at a pivotal moment in her career, as she seeks to rebuild trust with fans while reflecting on the lessons learned from recent controversies.
