StayC, the popular K-pop girl group, has made a charismatic comeback with their first full-length album, "Metamorphic," released on Monday. This album follows their mini-album "Teenfresh," which came out in August last year. The new album comprises 14 tracks, including unit and solo songs, showcasing the group's transformation and growth.
At a press conference held on Monday, Sumin expressed the group's excitement and the extensive preparation behind the album. "We have been preparing for this full-length album for a long time. As the album's title suggests, listeners will see a transformed version of StayC. We were worried about whether we could pull off all 14 songs, but the more we worked on it, the more fun it became," she said.
StayC has been known for their "Teenfresh" identity, delivering refreshing and positive energy through their music. However, with "Metamorphic," the group has adopted a more rebellious and confident persona. "We kept delaying the release of the full-length album because we wanted to make a perfect album. We want to thank the composers and lyricists who wrote such great songs," Seeun remarked.

Sieun described the comeback as a "transformation from kitsch to cheekiness." She further elaborated, "Up until now, we have released songs that offer positive energy and healing moments to the listeners. This time, we have prepared songs that are bold and rebellious, showing our ambitions. We hope the public will see the growth of the six of us."
The album's featured track, "Cheeky Icy Thang," is a standout synth-pop song with a repetitive and addictive hook. Seeun shared her experience working on the music video, stating, "Since there were no occasions to make a cheeky expression in StayC's previous music videos, it felt awkward. I had to shoot more than 10 times to get the look right." Yoon noted, "Although we have mostly presented melody-focused songs, this title track emphasizes rhythm and features many repetitive sections."
Another significant track, "1 Thing," reflects StayC's determination and growth, with lyrics expressing a strong resolve to pursue their desires. The album also includes unit and solo tracks, such as "Find" by Sieun, Seeun, and J, and "Fakin" by Sumin and Yoon. Isa’s solo song "Roses" is also featured in the album.
A particularly meaningful song for the group is "Stay WITH me," dedicated to their fans. Sumin highlighted the importance of this track, noting that all members participated in writing its lyrics. "Initially, we tried to write the lyrics about the story of Alice in Wonderland, but then we decided to shift our focus entirely and write the lyrics with our fans in mind," she said, adding that they wrote the lyrics while on their world tour.
To celebrate the release of "Metamorphic," StayC opened a pop-up store at Cafe Scene in Seongdong-gu, Seoul, last Friday, offering fans a unique way to engage with the group's latest work.
StayC's return with "Metamorphic" marks a significant evolution in their musical journey, presenting a bold and cheeky new image that promises to captivate their audience.
