Girls’ Generation project unit HRS has reached No. 1 on a YouTube music chart in South Korea with its debut song, “Skibidi.”

Released on Aug. 31, the track topped YouTube’s Trending Music chart in South Korea. Its accompanying performance video also ranked No. 1 on the platform’s daily Top Music Videos chart in the country as of Sept. 1.

“Skibidi” shifts from house to hip-hop and centres on the three members’ declaration that they will create a path of their own. The performance video places Hyoyeon, Yuri and Sooyoung in matching white T-shirts, jeans and caps, focusing on their choreography and interaction.

The unit appeared on MBC’s “Show! Music Core” on Sept. 5 to perform “Skibidi” and its B-side, “Lowkey In Love.” The latter is a dance-pop track combining brass instrumentation with a retro-inspired groove.

Girls’ Generation-HRS originated from the “Fake Kim Hyoyeon” series on Hyoyeon’s personal YouTube channel, “Hyo’s Level Up.” The content followed the three members as they competed for positions including main vocalist and centre. What began as an entertainment project subsequently developed into a digital single and televised music-show performances.

Girls’ Generation previously introduced the vocal-oriented unit TTS, comprising Taeyeon, Tiffany and Seohyun, in 2012. Oh!GG—Taeyeon, Sunny, Hyoyeon, Yuri and Yoona—followed in 2018. HRS distinguishes itself through its beginnings in self-produced online entertainment content.
