Polish photographer Piotr Zbierski will present “Solid Maze” at ArtSpace LUMOS in Daegu from Aug. 28 to Oct. 24. According to the organizer, it is his first solo exhibition in Korea.

The exhibition will later travel to SPACE22 in Seoul, where it will run from Nov. 3 to 21.

The project is based on Zbierski’s photobook “Solid Maze of All That’s Left Untold.” The 160-page publication contains more than 300 photographs taken over approximately 20 years, including previously unpublished images and recent works.

Rather than arranging the photographs chronologically, Zbierski connects images from different periods through formal, emotional and intuitive relationships. The exhibition selects and reorganizes photographs and texts from the publication within the gallery space.

The project took shape around the COVID-19 pandemic. With travel restricted, Zbierski revisited stored negatives, contact sheets and unpublished images. He then edited earlier photographs through the perspective of his present memories and emotions.

Zbierski approaches photography as more than a means of recording or conveying information. His work considers encounters with people and places, as well as the way an image changes through memory after it is made. In the project, he compares time to a house that is continually renovated and expanded.

A black line running through the exhibition refers to Ariadne’s thread from Greek mythology. It connects separate groups of photographs and texts while providing a route through the gallery.

Born in Łódź, Poland, in 1987, Zbierski studied photography at the Łódź Film School. He received the Leica Oskar Barnack Award Newcomer in 2012 for his series “Pass by Me.”

He presented an exhibition based on “Solid Maze” in Arles during the city’s 2025 photography festival period. In 2026, he participated in KG+ Select, a satellite program of KYOTOGRAPHIE.

The Korean exhibition is co-curated by ArtSpace LUMOS director Seok Jaehyun and Wiktoria Michałkiewicz. Zbierski and Michałkiewicz will attend the opening event at 5 p.m. on Aug. 28. The gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and closed on Sundays, Mondays and public holidays.
