Korean Crime Thriller 'The Roundup: Punishment' Dominates Box Office in Opening Weekend

"The Roundup: Punishment," the latest installment in the crime-action franchise, led the weekend box office, drawing nearly 3 million moviegoers during its opening weekend, according to data from the Korean Film Council.

Starring Ma Dong-seok, the film attracted 2.91 million viewers from Friday to Sunday, accumulating a total of 4.25 million admissions since its release on Wednesday.

Ma, also known as Don Lee, played the role of tenacious cop Ma Seok-do and served as a planner, screenwriter, and producer for the project.

Directed by Heo Myeong-haeng, who previously worked as a martial arts choreographer on the franchise's first three installments, "The Roundup: Punishment" follows Ma Seok-do as he tracks down a ruthless global drug kingpin and a cryptocurrency entrepreneur involved in illegal online casinos for money laundering.

"Kung Fu Panda 4" secured the second spot on the box office chart with 98,997 admissions, followed by "Exhuma" in third place with 25,998 admissions.
