K-pop sensation Stray Kids has made music history once again by securing their eighth No. 1 album on the prestigious Billboard 200 chart with their latest release, 'Do It.' The achievement marks another milestone for the South Korean boy group, which continues to dominate the American music landscape with unprecedented success.
According to Billboard's chart preview released on Sunday, 'Do It' debuted at the top position on the Billboard 200 for the week ending November 27. This latest triumph extends Stray Kids' remarkable streak of chart-topping performances, solidifying their position as one of the most successful international acts in recent years.
Billboard emphasized the historic nature of this achievement, noting that Stray Kids had already broken records earlier this year. When their album 'Karma' opened at No. 1 in September, the group became the first act in the 69-year history of the Billboard 200 to debut at No. 1 with their first eight chart entries. With 'Do It's debut at the summit, they have now extended this unprecedented record even further.
The accomplishment also establishes another significant milestone for the group. With their eighth No. 1 album, Stray Kids now holds the record for the most No. 1 albums among all musical groups since 2000, surpassing other successful acts of the 21st century. This achievement underscores their exceptional commercial appeal and the growing global influence of K-pop music.
Stray Kids' journey to the top of the charts has been consistently impressive over the past few years. Their string of No. 1 albums includes 'Oddinary' and 'Maxident,' both released in 2022, followed by '5-Star' and 'Rock-Star' in 2023. The momentum continued into 2024 with 'Ate' and 'Hop,' and earlier this year with 'Karma,' before the latest success with 'Do It.'
The Billboard 200 chart represents the most comprehensive measure of album popularity in the United States, calculated through equivalent album units that combine multiple metrics. These units encompass traditional physical album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA), and streaming equivalent albums (SEA), providing a holistic view of an album's commercial performance across different consumption methods.
The commercial strength of 'Do It' was particularly evident in its sales breakdown. Of the impressive 295,000 equivalent album units earned by Stray Kids during the tracking week, an overwhelming 286,000 units came directly from physical album sales. This demonstrates the group's ability to drive traditional album purchases, a testament to their dedicated fanbase and the enduring appeal of physical music formats in the K-pop market.
