The famous piece of art by Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan, which was a ripe banana duct-taped to a wall, was on show at an art museum in Seoul. A college student ate the banana, which he said was his "artwork."
이탈리아 화가 마우리치오 카텔란의 잘 익은 바나나를 벽면에 테이프로 붙인 유명한 작품이 서울의 한 미술관에 전시되었습니다. 그리고 그 곳에서 한 대학생이 "작품"이라고 말한 바나나를 먹은 사건이 벌어졌습니다.  

The work is part of Cattelan's "WE" solo show at the Leeum Museum of Art, which the private museum says is going on right now.
이 작품은 리움미술관에서 현재 진행 중인 카텔란의 'WE' 개인전의 일부입니다.

At an exhibition of 38 works by Cattelan from the 1990s, a student took the banana from one of the pieces, peeled it, and ate it on the spot. Then, using the tape that was already on the wall, he stuck only the banana peel back to the wall.
1990년대에도 카텔란의 작품 38점 전시에서 한 학생이 그 중 하나의 바나나를 뜯어 껍질을 벗기고 그 자리에서 먹었습니다. 그런 다음 이미 벽에 붙어 있던 테이프를 사용하여 바나나 껍질만 다시 벽에 붙였습니다.
 

When the museum asked the art student from Seoul National University why he had eaten it, he said he hadn't eaten breakfast and was hungry.
박물관 측이 서울대 미술학과 학생에게 왜 먹었느냐고 묻자 아침을 안 먹고 배가 고팠다고 말했습니다.

In a later phone chat with a local reporter, the student admitted that he thought "damaging a piece of modern art could also be seen as art." He also said that he thought putting the banana peel back on was a fun way to look at it.
이후 현지 기자와의 전화 통화에서 학생은 "현대 미술 작품을 손상시키는 것도 예술로 볼 수 있다"고 생각한다고 시인했습니다. 또한 바나나 껍질을 다시 붙이는 것이 그것을 보는 재미있는 방법이라고 생각했다고 말했습니다.

According to the artist's directions, which were given before the show, Cattelan's banana is changed every two to three days. The museum has decided not to sue the student for damage.
전시 전 작가의 지시에 따라 카텔란의 바나나는 2~3일에 한 번씩 갈아줍니다. 박물관은 피해 학생을 고소하지 않기로 결정했습니다.
 

Also, this is not the first time something like this has happened. In 2019, a performance artist named David Datuna ate the banana from "Comedian" at the Perrotin at Art Basel in Miami, just minutes after it sold for $120,000. On social media, a film of Datuna eating the banana with great pleasure went viral.
이와 같은 일이 처음이 아닙니다. 2019년, 데이비드 다투나(David Datuna)라는 퍼포먼스 아티스트가 마이애미 아트 바젤의 페로틴(Perrotin)에서 12만 달러에 팔린 지 불과 몇 분 만에 "코미디언(Comedian)"에 나오는 바나나를 먹었습니다. SNS에서는 다투나가 바나나를 맛있게 먹는 모습이 담긴 영상이 화제를 모은 적이 있습니다.

At the Leeum Museum of Art, the artist's first solo-exhibition in Korea runs until July 16.
리움미술관에서는 작가의 국내 첫 개인전이 7월 16일까지 열립니다.
