Artist So LEE (이소), famous as the author of the steady seller ‘Paris Museum of Art Loved by Painters’, is holding an invitational exhibition at the gallery ‘Atelier Pangyo’ in Bundang-Gu, Seongnam City from February 3rd. The theme is ‘BREEZE-Mountain, Field, Wind (BREEZE-산·들·바람)’.
She has been engaged in various activities in the field of culture and art, and as an artist, she has been attracting attention from the art world with her abstract painting style based on unique textures on canvas.
In this exhibition, 25 new works are displayed, including large-scale works, which are conceptually newly evolved from her previous works, such as "Trees and Belle époque (Beautiful Times)."

“The main character in the forest in my painting is the wind. And I tried to reveal the winding forest on the canvas. After applying stone powder thickly, I made wind by scraping and shaving.” She explains of her work process.
Unlike the static images revealed on the surface, this series is characterized by the harmony of dynamic elements flowing behind it.

Lee unravels the theme of the exhibition, ‘Wind’, with color, blank space, and texture. She added vitality to this simplified subject with color and texture, and on the other hand, made use of the beauty of the blank space to allow the main character, 'Wind', to come in and out naturally.
In particular, the surface texture of the canvas she repeatedly paints and polishes is transmitted to the audience like energy condensed inside her.

Another characteristic of her work is the beauty of blank space. It is mainly used in oriental art. “I hope that the blank space in my work stimulates the imagination of the audience so that they can fill the blank with more diverse images, even in their imagination” she said. This reference is the reason she utilizes the beauty of blank space in her work.
LEE has held various exhibition activities not only in South Korea, but also abroad. The trend of her recent works was also well shown in ‘Art on paper New York 2021’, ‘Art Miami 2022’, and ‘San Francisco Art market 2022’, which she recently exhibited.
LEE's invitational exhibition ‘BREEZE-산·들·바람’ continues until March 1st.
