The National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Korea is currently showcasing its longest-running program, "Young Korean Artists," which highlights emerging artists in the country. The exhibition, which runs through September 10, 2023, features the works of thirteen artists and collectives recommended by the museum's curators and art experts.
"Annotating the Museum" is this year's theme, with participating artists exploring the museum space, exhibitions, and experiences through their unique visual vocabularies. The artworks on display include architecture, furniture design, graphic design, photography, and media art, offering visitors a diverse range of experiences.
The section titled "Annotating Space" features works by Kim Kyoung-tae, Lee Da-mi, Kim Hyun-jong, Hwang Dong-wook, and COM, showcasing the various architectural forms that make up the museum setting, such as its columns, rotunda, and ramp core. Meanwhile, "Annotating Experiences" presents works by Paik Jong-kwan, Park Hee-chan, Chu Mi-rim, Jo Gyu-yub, and Mu:p, which are based on a range of perspectives.

"13 Interviews - 13 Comments" is located at Gallery 2's exit, showcasing archival materials alongside interviews with the participating artists. The videos offer a glimpse into the creative process of the young artists exploring different fields such as architecture, design, media, and photography.
The museum plans to publish a book of the works, including discussions surrounding the exhibition, in July. Titled "Annotating the Museum," the book features authors such as Choi Choon, an architect and professor of architecture at Seoul National University, Choi Sung-min, director of Sulki & Min and a professor of visual design at the University of Seoul, and Chung Da-hyoung, a curator at the MMCA.
The exhibition is an excellent opportunity to discover some of South Korea's emerging artists and explore the museum space in new and exciting ways.
