In a nostalgic tribute to one of the most beloved animations of the 1990s, ENA has breathed new life into the cherished characters of "Young-Shim" with its latest romantic comedy series, "Oh! Young-shim." Nearly three decades after the original animated series captivated audiences, actors Lee Dong-hae, also known as Donghae of Super Junior, and Song Ha-yoon take on the roles of the iconic characters, transporting viewers back to the enchanting world of Young-shim and her childhood friend, Wang Kyung-tae.

Premiering to great anticipation on Monday, "Oh! Young-shim" picks up the story twenty years after middle school, following the lives of the two lead characters as they navigate adulthood. Ha-yoon portrays Oh Young-shim, who has become a dynamic variety show producer. When fate reunites her with her childhood friend Wang Kyung-tae, portrayed by Lee Dong-hae, now a CEO of a startup, a heartwarming romance ensues.

During an online press conference for the series, Ha-yoon expressed her excitement about revisiting Young-shim's character after two decades: "This series shows how Young-shim has turned out after 20 years. She is a reality show producer of eight years and still a rowdy character. I was curious about Yong-shim's life (after the animation) and thought it would be nice to be able to live as her ... Young-shim in 'Oh! Young-shim' really lives to her fullest. So as I was playing the character, it inspired me a lot, and I'm still trying to live with such passion, like her."

Portraying an iconic character comes with its own set of pressures, and Ha-yoon acknowledged the weight of stepping into Young-shim's shoes: "There was a sense of pressure that comes from the name and playing the character of Young-shim. But I decided that I should only bring in the nuance of Young-shim that I remember when creating my character." She aimed to capture the essence of the character while infusing her own interpretation, seeking to evoke a sense of nostalgia among viewers.

For Lee Dong-hae, "Oh! Young-shim" marks his return to the small screen after a nine-year hiatus since his role in the crime series "Quiz of God 4" in 2014. Sharing his excitement and nerves, he revealed that taking on the role of Kyung-tae was an easy decision. "When I imagined becoming Kyung-tae that I know from the animation, it felt really fun and interesting."

Lee emphasized the importance of eliciting nostalgia among the audience, saying, "I tried to think about how we can bring reminiscences to many of those who know the animation 'Young-shim.' Because I needed to offer nostalgia to those who know 'Young-shim' and also make it interesting for those who don't know the character, it was overwhelming." Despite the challenge, Lee expressed his joy in filming the series and expressed his hope that viewers would eagerly anticipate its release.

The enchanting world of "Oh! Young-shim" can be experienced weekly, with new episodes airing every Monday and Tuesday at 10 p.m.
