Webzen has announced a strategic investment in South Korean game developer Game2Gather, securing a 37.78% stake in the company. This investment will support Game2Gather in finalizing the development and service preparation for its upcoming mobile RPG, Chronosphere.
As part of this partnership, Webzen and Game2Gather plan to collaborate on future game projects, leveraging their combined expertise to enhance development and publishing capabilities. Game2Gather, founded in 2015 by former Com2uS producer and current CEO Kim Sang Mo, has established itself as a developer specializing in 2D animation-based RPGs. The studio’s previous hit, Dragon Sphere, gained critical acclaim, ranking No. 1 on Steam’s popularity charts for three consecutive weeks in 2018 following the release of its PC version, Dragon Sphere Steam.
Game2Gather has been steadily expanding its portfolio with collectible RPGs and idle RPGs, including Dragon Sphere and Martial Girl Idle. Now, the company is gearing up for the 2025 launch of Chronosphere, a mobile idle RPG infused with collectible RPG and SNG (social network game) elements.
Chronosphere distinguishes itself with a 2.5D environment and comedic 2D character designs, offering a casual yet visually engaging gaming experience. Set in a universe that blends martial arts, fantasy, and mecha elements, the game features eight factions and over 100 collectible Guardian characters, emphasizing strategic depth and collection-based gameplay.
With Webzen’s investment, Game2Gather is ramping up recruitment efforts to strengthen its development team while simultaneously preparing a roadmap for self-publishing its titles starting in 2025. Webzen and Game2Gather have also confirmed plans to expand their collaboration beyond Chronosphere into future game projects, potentially shaping a long-term development synergy.
Meanwhile, Webzen continues to expand its own gaming portfolio, aligning with its 2025 mid-to-long-term business strategy. The company is actively developing its own subculture game, TERAVIS, while also preparing the launch of multiple publishing titles, including Dragon Sword, which has already secured publishing agreements with partner companies.
This strategic move signals Webzen’s commitment to broadening its influence in the mobile RPG sector while supporting promising developers in the industry.
