[SayArt] 6 Galleries targeting the MZ generation, The Galleries Art Fair 2023

Published April 13, 2023 10:13 AM

The Galleries Art Fair 2023, which has grown 1.5 times over the previous year, began on April 12th with a VIP preview. It will be held for four days at the COEX B and C halls in Gangnam-Gu, Seoul, with 156 galleries participating.

Galleries in Samcheong-dong and Insa-dong brought fresh changes in line with global standards. This time, we will take a look at the six galleries that are leading the way in presenting works by artists who cater to the preference of the MZ generation.

The Gallerychosun is presenting Ahn Sanghoon’s paintings to target MZ generation. The artist thought it is important to consider about the act of painting as well. Accordingly, the title of the paintings is mostly written in “verb”. For instance, this painting’s title is “So, grab your favorite mug” and his other painting titled “I like the calm and cool wind”.

In the Lee Hwaik Gallery, artist Ha Ji-Hoon’s paintings are presented. He is an artist who uses landscapes as his main source of inspiration and who uses structure to show how landscapes made him feel.

Gallery GAIA is exhibiting with its exclusive artists Kim Myoungjin, her “Edgewalker” series is about a dream about a hybrid ego that rises and falls in the confused mind of a person walking on a rope between awareness and unconsciousness. This person is the main character of the metonymic story.

Sun Gallery is presenting the work of artist Lee Youngji, who delicately expresses leaves with powdered coloring on a sheet of paper.

Lastly Kiche gallery is presenting Yoo Jiyoung’s works. She brings objects such as cabinets, calendars, clocks, and color palettes into her works to establish or set the individual's perceptual structure in the dimensions of space and time, thereby supporting the framework of everyday, routine life. Through the artist's acts of intervention, the original structures and functions of these objects are partially lost or replaced entirely by something else that retains only a minimal physical form.
