Katseye, a multinational and multiethnic K-pop girl group formed by Hybe in collaboration with Geffen Records, has embarked on its first Asia promotion tour, starting with a press conference at Hybe’s headquarters in Seoul on Wednesday. The six-member group, consisting of Daniela from Los Angeles, Megan from Hawaii, Lara from India, Manon from Switzerland, Sophia from the Philippines, and Yoonchae from Seoul, aims to broaden its global reach by engaging with fans in the Philippines and Japan over the next two weeks.
The group members were selected from 120,000 applicants through the global audition program “The Debut: Dream Academy” and officially debuted in the United States on June 28. With its diverse cultural backgrounds, Katseye is positioning itself as a unique K-pop group, bringing something new to the industry. Leader Sophia explained that their strength lies in their synchronized choreographies, developed through the rigorous K-pop training system, and their ability to work together harmoniously despite their different backgrounds.
Although the K-pop training was intense, all members agree that it pushed them to grow and challenge themselves. Lara reflected on her trainee days, emphasizing how the experience instilled discipline and determination, essential to succeeding in the industry. Sophia added that the process taught the members the importance of working together as a team.
Manon highlighted the group’s aspiration to be a global inspiration for young girls, saying that their diversity allows them to resonate with fans from different cultures. Growing up as a mixed-race girl in Switzerland, Manon shared her personal experience of struggling to find representation in the entertainment industry. She hopes that Katseye’s success will show girls worldwide that achieving their dreams is possible with hard work and determination.
The group members expressed gratitude for their growing fanbase and the opportunity to showcase their talents. They noted how they strive to overcome cultural and language barriers by learning phrases in local languages to connect better with their fans. Megan emphasized how this approach strengthens their bond with their international supporters, making each interaction meaningful.
Katseye is on a mission to become the No. 1 global girl group, aiming to inspire and represent girls from all backgrounds. The group’s unique makeup, global appeal, and commitment to hard work place them in a strong position to make a lasting impact on the K-pop scene and beyond.
