The Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra (SPO) announced that it will present "Happy Concert: Together! II" on November 29 at 7:30 PM at the IBK Chamber Hall of the Seoul Arts Center in Seocho-gu. This initiative is part of the orchestra’s social contribution program aimed at fostering inclusivity and supporting young musicians with disabilities.
"Happy Concert" pairs SPO members with young performers, offering mentorship and collaborative opportunities that culminate in a live performance. Admission is free for the public, with tickets available on a first-come, first-served basis via the SPO website.
Under the baton of associate conductor David Yi, the evening will commence with Tchaikovsky's Serenade for Strings, showcasing its 1st and 2nd movements. The program continues with Beethoven’s String Quartet No. 4 (1st movement), Verdi-Doppler’s Fantasy on Rigoletto, and Sibelius’s iconic tone poem, Finlandia.
The latter half of the concert will feature Mascagni’s Intermezzo from Cavalleria Rusticana, famously used in The Godfather Part III, as well as Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7. The performance will highlight the vibrant energy of the 1st movement and the dramatic intensity of the 4th movement.
The ensemble includes 24 performers across various instruments, such as violins (Kang Su Min, Kang Ji Won, Kwon Hye Sung, Song Woo Seop, Lee Hyun Sung, Cho Yoon Sung, Park Jun Hyung, Park Hyung Joon, Kim Chae Woom), violas (Kim Yun Se, Ryu Jong Won), cellos (Son Jung Hwan, Cho Han Beom, Cho Hong Hee, Lee Jung Hyun, Park Yoo Rim), flutes (Kang Song Kang), flute/piccolo (Ha Yoo Bin), oboe (Shim Ha Yeon), clarinets (Kim Min Chul, Joo Chan Yi), horn (Moon So Yoon), trumpet (Jung So Young), and trombone (Jun Jin).
The concert promises an inspiring evening of mentorship, artistry, and community, embodying the spirit of collaboration and inclusivity in music.
