The Azerbaijan Tourism Board announced on November 26 that it successfully hosted its first networking dinner in Korea the previous evening at the Four Seasons Hotel in Jongno-gu, Seoul. The event, marking a significant milestone in Azerbaijan’s tourism promotion efforts in Korea, brought together key players from Azerbaijan’s travel and tourism sector who visited Seoul to showcase the country's unique appeal.

In his welcome speech, H.E. Ramin Hasanov, the Azerbaijani Ambassador to Korea, highlighted the growing ties between the two nations, including the sister-city agreement between Baku’s Garadagh District and Seoul’s Yongsan District. He expressed gratitude for Korea’s continued engagement and shared optimism for future collaborations to further strengthen bilateral relations.

Florian Sengstschmid, CEO of the Azerbaijan Tourism Board, opened the event by emphasizing the allure of Azerbaijan’s tourism offerings and the potential for multifaceted cooperation with Korea’s travel industry. His remarks set the stage for an engaging evening that underscored Azerbaijan’s rich cultural and natural heritage.

A comprehensive presentation followed, introducing attendees to Azerbaijan’s diverse tourism assets. Highlights included Baku’s harmonious blend of ancient and modern architecture, such as the UNESCO-listed Old Town and the Flame Towers, and natural attractions like the Ateshgah Fire Temple and Yanar Dag, the "Burning Mountain" that inspired Azerbaijan’s moniker as the “Land of Fire.” The presentation also featured the country’s thriving culinary, shopping, and leisure scenes, reflecting the blend of tradition and modernity that defines Azerbaijan.

Sengstschmid also noted the growing interest of Korean tourists in Azerbaijan, reporting that 13,972 Korean travelers visited the country between January and October 2024, representing a remarkable 91% increase compared to the previous year. He expressed hope that Azerbaijan would continue to gain recognition as a beloved travel destination among Korean tourists. “We aim to ensure that Azerbaijan becomes a familiar and cherished destination for Korean travelers,” he stated.

The event also drew attention to Azerbaijan’s commitment to strengthening its presence in the Korean travel market. Representatives from Azerbaijan’s travel industry were present, underscoring their interest in collaborating with Korean partners. Plans for further promotional activities include inviting Korean travel industry professionals and media representatives to Azerbaijan to experience its offerings firsthand.

The networking dinner was not only a platform to share Azerbaijan’s tourism potential but also a celebration of the growing cultural and economic exchanges between the two countries. By fostering deeper ties and mutual understanding, the Azerbaijan Tourism Board aims to position the country as a premier travel destination for Korean tourists, building on the momentum of recent visitor growth.

With events like this, Azerbaijan is not only showcasing its tourism assets but also paving the way for enriched cultural connections and expanded tourism exchanges with Korea, ensuring a bright future for bilateral relations.
