The Jeju Culture and Arts Foundation will host the 2024 Disability Arts Festival: TURN from December 6 to 8 at the Jeju Art Platform. This event, now in its second year, is part of the foundation's broader initiative to promote cultural and arts education for people with disabilities. The festival’s slogan, Toward a Shared Future, underscores its commitment to fostering inclusivity and creative expression.

The three-day festival offers a diverse program designed to highlight the artistic potential of individuals with disabilities. The opening ceremony on December 6 will set the tone for a series of thought-provoking lectures. Topics include Sustaining the Possibilities of Disability Arts Creation, The Pace and Connection in Facing Individuality, From Trying to Doing in Disability Arts, and Disability Arts: Moving Hearts. These discussions aim to challenge perceptions and explore the evolving landscape of disability arts.

A standout feature of the festival is Disability Artists’ Night, which celebrates the achievements of disabled artists and offers a space for networking and recognition. Adding to the lineup is an inclusive runway show featuring senior models and individuals with developmental disabilities, which promises to break conventional beauty standards and redefine the runway as a space of empowerment and creativity.

The festival will also showcase a mini concert by pianist Jeong Myeong Su, whose performance is expected to captivate audiences while highlighting the artistic excellence of performers with disabilities. The carefully curated program reflects the festival’s mission to blend artistic innovation with societal inclusion.

Last year’s inaugural festival laid the groundwork for TURN as a platform to celebrate and amplify the voices of disabled artists. This year’s edition builds on that foundation, aiming to deepen public understanding and appreciation for their contributions to the arts. Through education and performance, the festival seeks to dismantle barriers and foster a more inclusive cultural landscape.

The Jeju Culture and Arts Foundation views this event as an opportunity to address broader issues surrounding disability and inclusion, using art as a transformative medium. By showcasing the diversity of talents and perspectives within the disabled community, TURN invites audiences to envision a future where art and accessibility go hand in hand.

With its compelling mix of lectures, performances, and creative showcases, the 2024 Disability Arts Festival: TURN is set to inspire dialogue, spark imagination, and celebrate the unique voices of disabled artists. Admission is free, making it accessible to all, and the festival promises to leave a lasting impact on both participants and attendees.
