The Gyeonggi Arts Center will present the Gyeonggi Provincial Dance Company’s repertoire piece, “Chan Yeon” (찬연), as part of its Art on Theater project. Screenings of the performance will take place at CGV Gwanggyo on December 11 at 2:30 PM and at CGV Uijeongbu on December 13 at 3 PM, offering audiences a chance to experience the acclaimed production in high-definition cinema format.
“Art on Theater” is a flagship initiative under the Gyeonggi New Media Arts Broadcasting Station and the Gyeonggi Excellent Performance Digitalization Project for 2024. This project captures the essence of distinguished performances by Gyeonggi’s arts organizations in high-quality video format. This year’s lineup includes the Gyeonggi Provincial Dance Company’s “Chan Yeon” and “Sejong,” the Gyeonggi Sinawi Orchestra’s “Twelve Composers” (十二작곡가), and the Gyeonggi Philharmonic Orchestra’s “Concerto Night.”
Among these, “Chan Yeon” is the first to be showcased to audiences through these screenings. Tickets are free and can be reserved on a first-come, first-served basis via the Gyeonggi Art ON social media channels or through telephone inquiries. For those unable to secure tickets in advance, on-site reservations will also be available.
The filmed performances, including “Chan Yeon,” will later be made accessible on the Gyeonggi Art ON website, an online platform operated by the Gyeonggi New Media Arts Broadcasting Station. This initiative aims to provide greater accessibility to cultural and artistic experiences for residents who may not have had the chance to attend the performances live.
The Gyeonggi Arts Center stated that the screenings are part of its ongoing efforts to expand cultural engagement by offering new ways to experience the work of local performing arts groups. By bringing these productions to the big screen, the center hopes to connect with a broader audience and elevate the accessibility of the region’s rich cultural offerings.
The “Art on Theater” project reflects Gyeonggi’s commitment to embracing digital transformation in the arts, creating opportunities for audiences to engage with performances in innovative formats. This blending of traditional stagecraft with modern technology highlights the enduring value of performing arts while ensuring they remain relevant and accessible in a rapidly changing media landscape.
By bridging live performance with digital innovation, the Gyeonggi Arts Center is setting a benchmark for regional arts organizations, demonstrating how technology can amplify cultural reach and deepen community engagement.
