K-pop boy group P1Harmony is venturing into new musical territory with their seventh mini-album SAD SONG, incorporating the Latin genre for the first time. The album, which drops on Friday, marks a significant departure from their previous work, following the success of their feature album Killin’ It earlier this year.
The group, consisting of members Keeho, Theo, Jiung, Intak, Soul, and Jongseob, gained notable recognition with Killin’ It, which secured their first win on South Korea’s popular music show Music Bank. Now, P1Harmony is taking their artistry to the next level, embracing a Latin-infused sound while staying true to their identity as a K-pop group.
The title track SAD SONG features a rhythmic piano pattern blended with hip-hop elements, narrating a story of loneliness and emptiness after heroic acts—a continuation of the group’s conceptual universe. Members Jiung, Intak, and Jongseob contributed to the writing of the lyrics, further showcasing their creative input in shaping the album.
In an interview with The Korea Times, leader Keeho expressed confidence in the group's new direction. “I think this album’s title song has the most distinct genre among the ones we've released so far. It’s fresh, and it will clearly show we took on a new challenge,” he said. “We worked really hard on it, and since it’s our first attempt at this genre, we prepared diligently. I hope our fans will love it.”

Their inspiration to delve into the Latin genre came from their experiences during their first solo concerts in Latin America as part of their world tour P1ustage H: P1oneer. These encounters left a lasting impact on the group, leading them to embrace Latin music more closely. “Seeing the culture, passion, and love from our fans directly when we performed there made us fall even more in love with Latin music. It became an opportunity to learn more about the genre, which inspired this album’s title track,” Keeho shared.
For Jongseob, who co-wrote the lyrics, the process of blending the Latin genre with P1Harmony’s unique musical identity was both challenging and rewarding. “We really love the Latin genre, but we also needed to incorporate P1Harmony’s color into it,” he said. “We thought a lot about how to write rap and structure the song to maintain our distinct style while staying true to the genre.”
Jiung also emphasized the importance of visualizing the genre’s essence during the creative process. “I thought about the hot sun of Latin America when working on the song. It may seem abstract, but I tried to express that energy through our voices and dance,” he explained.
WASP, another track from the album, is the group’s first unit song, performed by Intak and Jongseob. The duo co-wrote the song and aimed to contrast its energy with the title track, using the metaphor of a wasp to represent their confidence and strength. “We wanted to show that when we’re on stage, we’re like wasps—fearless and strong, with nothing to fear,” Intak said.
With SAD SONG, P1Harmony is set to show their growth as artists while venturing into new genres, proving their versatility and commitment to musical exploration.
