ONE AND J. Gallery is pleased to announce Ahnnlee Lee's exhibition "Puck, Nocturnal Paintings," running from July 7 to August 18, 2024.
Inspired by Puck, the mischievous fairy from Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream," this exhibition delves into the complexities of human relationships through Lee's dynamic and intricate artworks.
Known for his playful tricks and the ensuing chaos, Puck serves as a metaphor for Lee’s artistic intervention in daily interactions, where seemingly mundane moments reveal profound emotions and scenarios.
Lee meticulously observes his surroundings, capturing the essence of human connections and emotions in his paintings.
In "Puck, Nocturnal Paintings," Lee draws on the unpredictability and spontaneity characteristic of Puck. Just as Puck secretly drops the magical juice on the eyelids of sleeping lovers, leading to unexpected entanglements, Lee intervenes subtly in his art, creating compositions that reflect the complexities and nuances of relationships.
His method includes randomly throwing paint on the canvas, improvising lines that defy initial intentions, and embedding secret elements known only to the artist, akin to Puck's playful tricks.

The exhibition showcases Lee's latest works, including "Kiss" (2024), "Carnival Confetti" (2024), and "Olive Trip" (2024), primarily created with sand. This material, commonly used in sculptures, is reimagined in Lee's paintings, drawing on his extensive sculptural experience.
The process involves mixing sand, acrylic, and pigments, allowing them to dry, and then reworking the layers repeatedly. This technique reflects the push and pull of emotions and reason, culminating in paintings that are both detailed and vibrant, with tiny units like spots making up the whole.
Ahnnlee Lee, born in 1985 in Korea, received his DNAP and DNSAP degrees from Beaux-Arts de Paris. His artistic journey is marked by a keen observation of surrounding details and fleeting moments, including seeds, leaves, flowers, fruits, light, and birds.

The opening reception will be held on Sunday, July 7, from 6 PM to 9 PM, with extended hours for a special Summer Night Program from July 9 to July 14, staying open until 10 PM. The exhibition is open from Tuesday to Sunday, 11 AM to 6 PM, and closed on Mondays and holidays.
