The Buk-Seoul Museum of Art opens its vacant space exhibition Cherishing the Blinking on December 17, 2024, running through August 17, 2025. Featuring 12 works by artist Yea Woon Hae, the exhibition invites visitors to discover the subtle beauty and renewed vitality in discarded and overlooked objects. From crushed aluminum cans to rusted scrap metal, the artist transforms these forgotten items into communicative pieces radiating fresh meaning.

Yea Woon Hae’s work centers on repurposing objects that have lost their original purpose, reinterpreting them as vibrant communicators. The exhibition title, Cherishing the Blinking, refers to fleeting moments of connection and illumination, akin to a lighthouse’s signal. By reimagining these objects through art, the artist challenges visitors to reconsider their relationships with the overlooked entities in their surroundings.

Central to the exhibition is the artist’s philosophy of "care and acknowledgment." Yea’s installations transform mundane items into evocative creations, inspiring viewers to uncover beauty in the ordinary. The exhibition features sculptures, installations, and participatory performances, creating a dynamic and interactive experience for visitors.

On December 25, a participatory performance, Love-Letter ????-???????????? ????????-????????????-????, will invite participants to connect can tabs while sharing drinks and engaging with the exhibition’s themes. Those who join will also receive small commemorative gifts. Details about the event and how to register can be found on the Buk-Seoul Museum of Art website.

This exhibition is part of the museum’s Vacant Space Project, launched in 2017, which utilizes underexplored areas within the museum to foster unconventional connections with the audience. By placing works beyond traditional galleries, the project aims to broaden accessibility and create novel sensory experiences. Cherishing the Blinking extends this mission by exploring themes of coexistence and connection, encouraging curiosity and care for all forms of existence.

The exhibition draws inspiration from poet Yun Dong Ju’s words, “With a heart that sings for the stars, I must love all that is dying.” It invites visitors to reflect on the fleeting yet profound connections between objects and the people who care for them. Through its 12 carefully crafted works, the exhibition calls for a tender appreciation of these objects and their transformative journeys.

As the seasons transition from winter to spring and summer, the exhibition mirrors this progression, presenting objects as living entities within time’s flow. It also inspires visitors to carry this perspective into daily life, fostering more empathetic and harmonious interactions with all forms of existence.

Located in the museum’s outdoor plaza and second-floor vacant spaces, Cherishing the Blinking is free to the public. Visitors are encouraged to explore the installations and participate in performances that blur the lines between art and life. The exhibition offers a poignant commentary on renewal, care, and interconnectedness, leaving viewers with a sense of wonder and introspection.
