K-pop girl group Illit has released their second EP, I'll Like You, amidst ongoing plagiarism accusations. The group has been accused of copying the concept of fellow K-pop group NewJeans, but Illit has maintained a calm stance, focusing on their creative direction rather than confrontation.
At their showcase in Seoul, member Yunah addressed the controversy by saying, "We’ve worked hard to present our best to fans, regardless of the circumstances. We deeply appreciate all those who have supported Illit’s growth and cheered us on.”
Yunah also emphasized the group's commitment to building their own identity within the K-pop industry, despite the controversy. “We are determined to showcase our unique color and preserve the love our fans have for Illit,” she stated firmly.
The allegations surfaced in April when former ADOR CEO Min Hee-jin claimed that Illit’s debut EP, Super Real Me, had copied NewJeans' concept. However, Illit’s agency, Belift Lab, strongly refuted these claims, stating that the accusations were baseless.

The group also opened up about the pressure they felt while preparing their second EP following the unexpected success of their hit song Magnetic from their first album. Member Wonhee acknowledged, “There was some pressure while preparing for the second mini-album, but above all, I want our fans to feel joy when listening to our music.”
The new EP contains five tracks, including the lead song Cherish (My Love), the title track I'll Like You, and other songs like IYKYK (If You Know You Know), Pimple, and Tick-Tack. The group highlighted that Cherish (My Love) showcases their bold and candid charm, focusing on valuing their own emotions rather than seeking external validation.
“We were initially nervous about trying a new vibe, but the more we practiced, the more it felt like our own,” Yunah explained. “We worked hard on this, recording the track seven times, and it helped us grow as a group.”
Illit also expressed their gratitude for the guidance provided by HYBE Chairman Bang Si-hyuk, who contributed as a producer for their new EP. Wonhee shared, “Mr. Bang gave us detailed advice on expressing ourselves through choreography, embodying the song, and conveying emotions through facial expressions. His insights made the song more dynamic and captivating.”
Illit's new EP I'll Like You not only addresses the controversy but also serves as a significant step in their journey to solidify their place in the K-pop industry. With their continued growth, the group is poised to make a lasting impact on the global music scene.
