The world's top search engine celebrated the legacy of Lebanese-American writer and painter Etel Adnan through Google.
This illustration, part of the Google Doodles series, depicts Adnan holding a brush at her desk and represents her career spanning 50 years, including paintings and books.
Born in 1925 in Lebanon, The artist began painting in the 1960s, teaching aesthetics and philosophy at a university in northern California.
In the 1970s and 1980s, she published a collection of poems and essays, including "Sitt Marie Rose", a novel based on the true story of a woman killed while supporting Palestine during the Lebanese Civil War.
She was included in Documenta 13 for the introduction of the curator in 2012 raised her profile, and was awarded the Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres, France's highest cultural honor, in 2014.
In 2021, the Guggenheim Museum in New York hosted a large exhibition called "Etel Adnan: Light's New Measure" to showcase works such as paintings, ceramics, artist books, and tapestries.
She died in 2021, but she still influences many in the war in the Arab-speaking world and various fields, including culture, identity, and women's rights.
