Chung Hyun, a sculptor, holds his solo exhibition, 'MASS' in Seoul.
Chung is a South Korean Sculptor who has explored the physical properties and possibilities of materials by creating figures and groups with discarded materials such as railroad ties, waste materials, and scrap metal.
He looks at the unique working world of sculpting non-sculptural materials by using materials that are insignificant or useless but are condensed with the result of time and experience. Through the exhibition, he expresses the 'time of becoming a mass' that the material of the work has survived and endured as a unique being.

In the history of modern Korean sculpture, the artist has a unique position. He has consistently been interested in using human sculptures and waste materials, not contributing to the flow of Korean art in the 1980s, when abstract expression began to become popular.
In the exhibition, the artist emphasizes the narrative derived from the characteristics of the material by minimizing the creator's intervention, not a realist approach. Rather than insisting on self-expression, he pays attention to the time, memory, and history that the materials have as a unique being.

The exhibition displays the artist's major works from the 90s as well as his drawing works and new works. The audience can enjoy various fun things, including writing workshops, drawing workshops, and touchable sculptures.
In particular, the exhibition collaborated with the brand ODUJEJ, in which the audience will able to purchase a Mudeul crayon that resembles a new work in the exhibition. The crayon contains the artist's values of drawing by reviving memories and emotions as writing a diary.
The exhibition will be held until Mar. 17 next year at the Seoul Museum of Art in Gwanak-gu, Seoul.
