Léo Baron, a 93-year-old artist based in Carrouges, France, is opening the doors of his studio "Le Carré Rouge" to the public for three special weekends. The painter and plastic artist, born in 1932, will welcome visitors on November 29-30, December 6-7, and December 13-14, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Baron has had an illustrious career spanning multiple artistic disciplines. Throughout his career, he has created numerous sets and designs for theater, television, and cinema productions. In 1988, he collaborated with architect Yann Brunel on a monumental artwork for the facade of the Central Lending Library in Montbrison, Haute-Loire.
The veteran artist has exhibited his works extensively both throughout France and internationally, with shows in prestigious locations including Tokyo, Brussels, The Hague, and Montreal. Baron has approximately thirty exhibitions to his credit. In 2017, he completed a two-month residency at the prestigious Villa Medici in Rome, one of the most coveted artist residencies in the world.
Visitors to the studio will have the opportunity to meet Baron personally and discover his artwork on the eve of his upcoming international exhibition in Belgium, scheduled for spring 2026. The sales made at Carrouges will be his last before this significant international event.
The opening weekend will feature special entertainment and activities. On Saturday, November 29, Norman singer-pianist Prisca Baron will perform two 45-minute mini-concerts at 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. Additionally, Antony Vankrinkelen, a culinary wellness coach, will create live culinary presentations for visitors.
The studio "Le Carré Rouge" is located at 8 rue du 19 mars 1962 in Carrouges. This rare opportunity to visit the workspace of the nonagenarian artist represents a unique chance to engage with decades of artistic creation and meet one of France's enduring contemporary artists before his next major international showcase.
