A talented artist from Jersey is preparing to open her first solo exhibition this week, marking a significant milestone in her artistic career. Hazel Wynn will debut her collection at a special preview event on Friday evening, followed by the official opening of the exhibition the next day.
The gallery will host a preview evening and drinks reception on Friday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, giving art enthusiasts and the local community their first glimpse of Wynn's work. The exhibition will then officially open to the public on Saturday, offering visitors a chance to experience her artistic vision firsthand.
Titled 'The Overview Effect,' the exhibition draws its inspiration from a fascinating psychological phenomenon experienced by astronauts. This effect describes the profound shift in awareness that occurs when astronauts view Earth from space, experiencing an overwhelming sense of interconnectedness as they witness our planet as a small, fragile sphere floating in the vast universe. This cosmic perspective often leads to a deeper understanding of humanity's shared existence.
Wynn brings impressive credentials to her artistic practice, having trained at the prestigious Chelsea College of Art in London, where she specialized in textile design. Her artistic journey has taken her from New York, where she successfully sold hand-painted textile designs, to her current focus on fine art back in her native Jersey. This transition represents an evolution in her creative expression and a return to her roots.
The exhibition will be housed at Private & Public gallery, a respected art dealership located in Sommerville House on Phillips Street in St. Helier. Gallery director Chris Clifford spoke enthusiastically about Wynn's work and artistic approach, highlighting the deeper themes that run through her pieces.
