The Broadway musical “The Great Gatsby” surpassed 1,000 performances in New York on Sept. 17, according to Korean production company OD Company.
Shin Chun Soo participated in the production as its sole lead producer, becoming the first Korean producer to hold the position independently on Broadway.
The production has attracted a cumulative audience of 1.34 million and generated $139 million, or approximately 190 billion won, in ticket sales during its Broadway run.
A commemorative event was held following the 1,000th performance. Audience members received a special-edition Playbill and limited merchandise, while the cast marked the milestone onstage during the curtain call.
According to OD Company’s review of Internet Broadway Database records, only nine new productions that opened on Broadway during the past decade have reached 1,000 performances. The group includes “Moulin Rouge! The Musical” and “Hadestown.”
The musical has also expanded to markets including London and Seoul. Across productions presented in 26 locations worldwide, it has recorded more than 2 million admissions.
